GRAND GARAGE

The GRAND GARAGE is closely linked to the CAP.-Training.

The GRAND GARAGE is closely linked to the CAP.-Training. Since 2010, this program has offered young people the opportunity to complete a technical apprenticeship (mechatronics or cybersecurity) in tandem with a secondary school education in a general Austrian high school (AHS). Four graduates shared the desire for an innovative, professional workshop with Ruth Arrich and her husband Werner, together they built a space which allows young people to explore new technologies and seek personal growth..

The space is located at Tabakfabrik Linz, a former tobacco factory that was the first steel-frame building in Austria. The innovation workshop offers an infrastructure for people wanting to learn and work together – with learning and development spaces, project zones and co-creation areas, and access to more than ninety professional machines, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, robots, a CNC mill and a water jet cutter. Through educational workshops, young people, from primary school up to apprentices and students, are invited to explore the concept of MakerEducation and acquire first-hand practical experience of new technologies. The MakerSpace attracts creative students, ambitious startups and innovative companies who find ample space and equipment to materialize their ideas and projects. The GRAND GARAGE allows for unusual encounters, linking and connecting people seeking to learn, work and meet up with others – which is what the space calls MakerMatch.
